Scholarship Search

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled at Pennsylvania Western University - California Campus who are graduates from Bentworth School District (or successor school dirstrict) and who have participated in interscholastic sports as a student in the district. Scholarships can be renewed for up to seven semesters.

 

Scholarships shall be given to incoming Freshman students enrolled full-time who have graduated from the Brownsville Area School District and are in good academic standing.

Scholarships shall be awarded to senior (95 credits or more) majoring in Earth Sciences: Meteorology enrolled at PennWest - California campus. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a 3.25 GPA. Students must also write a 500 word essay describing their future career plans in the discipline as well as activities they have been involved with since their enrollment at PennWest - California campus. The applicant must also submit a current resume and two letters of recommendation. One letter must come from someone other than in the department of Earth Sciences at PennWest - California campus. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University.

Valley Garden Club
                         
            The Valley Garden Club has established a scholarship to assist students pursuing an education in the study of fields related to horticulture, agriculture, landscape architecture/design, botany, plant pathology, forestry, agronomy, environmental concerns, city planning, land management. 

A $1,500.00 scholarship will be awarded for the full academic year and will be given directly to the student to further his or her education.  No financial information is needed to apply for this scholarship.  This award does not go against any other financial aid received by student.

Awards will be made to students that have earned at least 60 credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher and a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Students must have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible. If a sufficient number of students cannot be identified using the initial criteria to exhaust funding, students with less than a 2.75 GPA and fewer than 60 credits may be considered. However, students below 2.5 GPA will not be considered. This funding is intended to be awarded to participating students only once during their time as a PennWest - California campus student. Selection - Office of Student Success & Director of Finanical Aid will first evaluate students with a minimum GPA of 3.0, at least 60 earned credit.

 

Scholarships shall be awarded to student athletes who have distinguished themselves in football or baseball. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. The athlete must be in their Junior or Senior year and must also demonstrate a sound character and be in good academic standing.






 

Scholarships shall be awarded to Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior or Senior students enrolled at PennWest - California Campus of PA. Scholarships will be awarded to members of the PennWest - California Campus football team.

Men's Basketball students enrolled at PennWest - California campus.

Pennsylvania Western University - California Campus - student scholarships at the discretion of VP, Strategic Enrollment Management.

Scholarships shall be awarded to one "First Year" and one "Second Year" student enrolled in the Masters of Science Athletic Training Program. Qualified student must be in good standings and have demonstrated a need for financial assistance. Scholarship may not be renewed. If in a given year a recipient isn't available, the scholarship can be awarded to a student based on financial need or merit that is currently enrolled in the Athletic Training Program. Can be awarded to any PennWest University student. 
 

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully eligible to receive scholarships, practice and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients shall be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate Women's Volleyball Team. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of seven semester providing that the student meets Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements as set forth by PennWest - California Campus, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. In the event that Women's Volleyball ceases to remain an NCAA sanctioned sport at the University, the Fund scholarship can be awarded, using the Fund to any female participant in a Cal U Club Volleyball program with academic achievement equal to or greater than the achievement required by the NCAA for intercollegiate athletes, or to another female student athlete who competes in an NCAA sanctioned sport at PennWest - California Campus. In the event that it becomes impossible to use the Fund to provide scholarships for members of an intercollegiate Women Volleyball team, the Foundation shall make every reasonable effort to inform the donor of that fact.

If an incoming Freshman, preference will be given to a student athlete in a High School in Washington and Fayette County. Must be a student athlete in good standing with 3.0 or higher GPA. If current student athlete , must have shown excellence on the field and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must have promoted good citizenship through community service. If none available, select best player to help program.

The scholarship will be granted to Junior students in good academic standing who need financial assistance and are residents of Washington County. It would be for one year.

The scholarship will be for an undergraduate that has the trait of honesty, industry, perseverance, and is academically eligible by PennWest - California Campus requirements.

Scholarships shall be awarded to Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior level students who play football, basketball or baseball. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 2.0. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University.

Shall be awarded to Sophomore, Junior, or Senior football players annually. Recipients must have displayed athletic ability, academic excellence, and strong moral development.

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully-eligible to receive scholarships, practice and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate.  Recipients shall be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate Men's Basketball Team. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of seven semesters providing the student meets Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements as set forth by California University of Pennsylvania, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate.

Eligibility:
A) Must be honorably discharged veteran;
B) completed 32 credits towards graduation;
C) Student at Pennsylvania Western University - California Campus in the preceding term and full-time student in the term of the application;
D) Have a minimum QPA of 3.0. 

Applicants will submit: 
A) Form DD-214 (Separation from active duty).
B) Written statement of goals (150 to 250 words). 
C) Copy of latest Official Transcript
D) Completed program Distribution Sheet signed by the advisor of Dean. 
E) Supporting documentation if desired.
 

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully-eligible to receive scholarships, practice and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients shall be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate football team and preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. First preference will be given to a student from the Johnstown Vocation Technical School in Johnstown, PA; second preference to a student from any high school in Cambria County, PA; third preference to the best student athlete available to help assure the success of PennWest - California Campus football program. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of eight semesters.

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled at the University who have achieved outstanding academic records, and who are members of either PennWest - California Campus basketball teams. May be renewed, provided the recipient continues to meet conditions of eligibility.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled at Pennsylvania Western - California who are who are majoring in any of the programs contained in the College of Education. If, in a given year, a qualified scholarship recipient(s) is not identified, then scholarships shall be awarded to a student with financial need. This scholarship can be renewable for a maximum of seven semesters

Scholarships shall be awarded to students majoring in History with preference given to those who have declared a Minor in Women's Studies; OR to a student(s) majoring in Women's Studies, if offered. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.0 minimum and demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of eight semesters.

Scholarships shall be awarded to student enrolled in any major with the Mathematics and Computer Science department. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.0. The scholarship should be awarded to any member of the men's or women's basketball teams providing he or she meets all of the previous criteria. If there is no basketball players who are qualified applicants in any given year, the scholarship may be awarded to any other individual enrolled in any major within the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled at Pennsylvania Western University - California campus who are graduates of Elizabeth Forward School District and who require additional financial assistance to complete their education at the university . In the event that the Elizabeth Forward School District does not exist as it is constituted on the date of this agreement signing, scholarships shall be awarded to students who reside in Elizabeth Township, PA, Forward Township, PA and Elizabeth Borough, PA and who require additional financial assistance to complete their education at the university. Scholarships can be renewed for a total of seven semesters. 

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully eligible to receive scholarships, practice and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients should be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate softball team. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of seven semesters providing the student meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements as set forth by PennWest - California Campus of PA, National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University affiliates.

A University athletic committee will recommend the person who will receive the annual football scholarship.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students who are members of the University football team. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves a GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students in good standing of PennWest- California Campus of PA, who are members of the University's football team. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled at California University of Pennsylvania who are graduates of Bentworth School District, are majoring in any major contained in the Computer Science, Information Systems and Engineering Technology or Mathematics and Physical Sciences departments, have a 3. 0 GP A or better and have demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. If, in a given year, a qualified scholarship recipient(s) is not identified, then scholarships shall be awarded to students based on financial need. Scholarships may be renewable for a period of seven semesters provided the student continues to meet the criteria listed herein. Includes $500.00 book scholarship with award. 

Scholarships shall be awarded to Juniors enrolled in the Elementary Education Department. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of at least 3.5. The scholarship should be awarded to any member of the men's or women's track, cross country or basketball teams providing he or she meets the previous criteria of a major in Elementary Education and 3.5 GPA. If there are no track, cross country or basketball players who are qualified applicants in any given year, the scholarship may still be awarded to a student otherwise qualified. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. The scholarship award is renewable for one year, provided the student continues to meet the criteria of the Elementary Education major and GPA of 3.5.

Student from Fayette County.

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully-eligible to receive scholarships, practice and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association , or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients must be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate Women's Basketball team with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. Scholarships may be renewed for a maximum total of eight semesters.

Scholarship(s) shall be awarded to a student who is an active member of the Cal U Men's Rugby Club and is enrolled in one of the following majors: Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management, Accounting, Business Economics, Finance, Marketing, Management, Information Technology Management, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies with a concentration on Environmental Science, Graphic Design, Graphics and Multimedia, Industrial Technology, or Geography with a concentration in GIS and Emergency Management. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. If in a given year, a qualified scholarship recipient cannot be identified, the award will be given to a student enrolled in one of the majors listed above who demonstrates financial need.

Scholarship recipients must be in good standing academically in accordance with the policies of the University. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated need for financial assistance to begin or continue their education at the University and who is a varsity athlete participating on one or more of the University's intercollegiate sports teams. In the event that there might be no student(s) so qualified, awards may be made to worthy students with demonstrated financial need.

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully eligible to receive scholarships, practice and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients should be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate Men's Baseball team, preference will be given to a Freshman student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of seven semesters providing the student meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements as set forth by PennWest - California Campus, National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University affiliates.

Consideration for this award shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled at the University who have achieved outstanding academic records, a 3.0 GPA, who are committed to providing service to the community, and who have demonstrated an ability to contribute to the overall success of the team. Each award shall be made for one academic year. Further, extraordinary accomplishments by a recipient may enable that recipient to be again considered for the award.

Consideration for this scholarship shall be awarded to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at the University who are members of the University's football team, who have demonstrated a dedication to the sport and to California University of PA and who show a strong work ethic. May be renewed for subsequent years providing the recipient continues to meet the conditions of eligibility and funds are available.

Scholarships shall be awarded to student athletes who participate in the sports of tennis and who have remained in good academic standing and show qualities of character consistent with University expectations for students.

Scholarship recipients shall demonstrate a desire for academic success, despite the hardships that they have faced and overcome. The selection criteria, in order of importance are to be as follows:
a. Demonstrated financial need.
b. Degree of hardship experienced by the applicant, as well as their efforts and success in overcoming that hardship to achieve academic success. The criterion is to be evaluated based on the essay noted in Paragraph #2 above and other supporting material.
c. Academic records.
d. Efforts made by applicant to meet the financial requirements of attending PennWest - California campus.

Applicants for Fund will submit 500 word essay to address the following:
“Describe any difficult circumstances that you and your family have faced as you were growing up. Include any personal or financial hardship you and your family experienced. Describe how these events affected your academic performance and how you responded personally to them. What motivated you to overcome these obstacles and what have you learned from this experience.”

 

Scholarships shall be awarded to Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior or Senior members of the PennWest - California Campus of PA Women's Volleyball team. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.0.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled at California University who are majoring in any of the Mathematics or Computer Science programs at the University and has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to support their education at the University. In the event that those majors do not exist, the award will be given to a student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to support their education at the University.

Scholarships shall be awarded to student athletes who have distinguished themselves in football. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students from Fayette County, PA. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.0 minimum. If possible the scholarship should be given to a student athlete. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. Scholarships are not to be renewed. If in a given year, a qualified scholarship recipient is not identified, then scholarships shall be awarded and determined by the Director of Financial Aid. 

Must be awarded to members of the basketball team at PennWest - California Campus of PA. Must have completed 32 credits, distinguished themselves with a 3.0 GPA, exhibited a positive attitude, demonstrated leadership abilities, and participated in community service on and off campus. In the event that no individual has maintained 3.0 GPA, the most qualified candidate may be considered.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students at PennWest - California Campus of PA who are members of the men's basketball team. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University.

Scholarships shall be awarded to incoming Freshmen students attending Pennsylvania Western University - California campus. Recipients must be African-American graduates of a Mon Valley NAACP service area school district that currently includes Belle Vernon Area, Bentworth, Bethlehem Center, Brownsville, California Area, Charleroi Area, Elizabeth Forward, Monessen, Ringgold, and Yough School Districts. Recipients must have achieved the minimum acceptance admissions criteria and a combined SAT critical reading and math only score of 930 or an ACT composite score of 20. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. 
 

The Aligning Career & Campus Experiences for Student Success (ACCESS) scholarship offers students up to $10,000 per year in scholarship support and access to unique learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. It also provides you with a wide variety of opportunities for networking, internships and eventual job placement. Scholarship dollars received may be used to cover tuition, on-campus room and board for four years. Recipients are also eligible for a summer stipend that allows you to participate in research. Students are mentored by specially trained faculty advisors who will help you develop cross-disciplinary skills that are so valuable in today’s workplace. Scholarship recipients also have access to many pre-professional and career development opportunities.

Students accepted to the ACCESS program will receive scholarship funds to cover unmet need, determined after available financial assistance from federal, state, and local scholarships have been calculated. An ACCESS scholarship will be awarded in the student’s first year based upon unmet financial need and continued for four years leading to graduation. The neediest students will qualify for the maximum amount of financial assistance. ACCESS scholarships will be renewed annually if students meet the criteria described below, for a total of four years of scholarship funding for each eligible student.

We would like evidence of academic talent. Low-income status is based on PELL eligibility, which is required for consideration; students who are not PELL eligible will not be considered for the ACCESS Scholarship. In addition to meeting the basic requirements for eligibility, prospective scholarship recipients must submit an application form, as well as an essay responding to a predetermined prompt about career goals, need for the scholarship, and plan for support if this scholarship funding is not awarded. Students will also submit one letter of recommendation.

Between submission deadline and beginning of application review, the committee will contact any applicant with an incomplete file and provide guidance for completion of the file. All applicants will be ranked according to rubric score. The top students will be offered the scholarship. If the applicant pool meets all criteria but exceeds the amount of scholarship funds available, the committee will conduct telephone and/or video interviews as a final step in choosing cohort participants.

Applicants not selected for the scholarship will be placed on a waitlist in order of initial score and date of application submission. In the event a selected student chooses not to enroll in Pennsylvania Western University - California campus and/or an ACCESS-eligible major or otherwise fails to meet enrollment requirements, the scholarship will be offered to the next highest-ranking applicant on the list. Should a Scholar be unable to maintain the scholarship, change their major to a degree program not eligible for ACCESS, or leave Pennsylvania Western University - California campus, the remainder of their scholarship funds will be awarded to the highest-ranking applicant on the cohort waitlist, beginning in the next award semester.

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to Freshmen, Sophomore or Junior undergraduate student athletes enrolled at the University who have achieved outstanding academic records, and who are members of the PennWest - California Campus intercollegiate athletic team. Incoming Freshmen and graduating Seniors are not eligible for award. One male and one female annually shall be awarded for one academic year. Past recipients may be considered for subsequent years providing he recipient continues to meet the conditions of eligibility and funds are available.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled at Pennsylvania Western - California campus, who have financial need. Scholarships may be renewable for a maximum of seven semesters.

Scholarship awards will made to a junior or senior student in each of the respective Presidential Distinguished Merit Awards Winner's departments. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and the $1,000 scholarship award will be made for the upcoming academic year. The scholarship is not renewable.

Students enrolled at California University of Pennsylvania

First preference for scholarships shall be given to student-athletes who graduated from a high school in the United States. Recipient student-athletes must have received a 3.0 GPA in the core high school courses and become a partial or full qualifier according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients must be of good character as determined by appropriate representatives of the University and have demonstrated a need for financial assistance as determined by officials of the University's Office of Financial Aid. Scholarship(s) may be renewable for a total of eight semesters. All recipients shall be members in good standing of the University's women's intercollegiate programs at the time of each selection.

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully-eligible to receive scholarships, practice, and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients shall be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate Men's Basketball Team. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of seven semesters providing the student meets Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements as set forth by PennWest - California Campus, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate.

Scholarships shall be awarded annually to children of parents who are presently employed or retired from the mining industry. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. 

Scholarships shall be awarded annually to a student-athlete(s) who are members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate football team at the time of each selection. Qualified students must have disguised themselves with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to a student of good character who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. Scholarship(s) may be renewable for a total of eight semesters for students who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Qualified students must be enrolled as a Business Administration major with concentration in Economics at Pennsylvania Western University - California campus, and have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to any such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. The scholarships are renewable provided that the student continues to meet all of the stated criteria. 

Scholarships shall be awarded to Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior or Senior members of the PennWest - California Campus of PA men's basketball team. Qualified students must have distinguished themselves with a GPA of 3.0.

Scholarships from the Fund will be awarded to graduates of the New Castle School District (or its successor district) who maintain an overall GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students majoring in Accounting, in Business or in Economics. If, in a given year, a qualified scholarship recipient cannot be identified, then scholarships shall be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need who are graduates of a school district adjoining New Castle. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of not more than seven semesters.

Football player from Aliquippa high school, whether an incoming freshman or a player already from the team will receive the scholarship. In the event that no one on the football team is from Aliquippa high school, Attorney General Gene Herne is allowing the scholarship to be awarded to a student from a high school similar in socio-economic status to Aliquippa.

Scholarships shall be awarded to qualified Freshmen students who have distinguished themselves as a member of a Technology Student Association Chapter during their high school years. Students wishing to compete for the award should present a letter of recommendation from their high school technology advisory club. Preference will be given to such student who has demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at California University.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled at PennWest-California who are majoring in elementary education and who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance to continue their education at the University. Scholarships may be renewable for a maxium of seven semesters. If at any time, a scholarship recipient meeting these criteria isn't available, the award can be made to student with financial need.
 

To be considered, students must meet all eligibility requirement set by the NCAA.  Prospective athletes will automatically be considered when appropriate. There is no application.  Scholarships are awarded by the head coach.


 

Recipient students must have demonstrated academic performance to be fully eligible to receive scholarships, practice and compete according to the guidelines established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate. Recipients shall be members in good standing of the University's intercollegiate Football Team. Scholarships may be renewed for a total of seven semester providing that the student meets Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements as set forth by California University of PA, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or any successor governing athletic body with which the University may affiliate.

Annually, scholarships will be awarded by the Accountancy Department's Endowment Fund Committee.  Criteria used in selecting current students as recipients include senior standing, academic record, classroom performance, and participation in university activities.

Also can be used for travel, research, continuing educational experiences, recruiting of new faculty.

 

Annually, the Clarion University Foundation, Inc., will make available six scholarships to be awarded to university non-instructional staff members who are members of  AFSCME Local 2326 , and/or their dependents enrolled at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus. Preference will be given to financial need followed by merit.  

 

This scholarship was established to honor Coach Al Jacks and his late wife Karen for their unselfish contributions to the football and athletic programs at Clarion for more than 20 years. To be considered, a student must be a Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus football player who meets the NCAA eligibility requirements. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by Clarion State football great Alex Sandusky, Class of 1954. This scholarship perpetuates the long-term commitment of retired faculty to Clarion and present day students. To be considered for this scholarship, candidates must:

- have a minimum SAT score of 1000 (combined critical reading & mathematics component) or ACT composite score of 22
- graduate in the upper two-fifths of high school class - Preference will be granted to a descendent of past or present APSCURF members at PennWest - Clarion

This scholarship was established by Reverend Clayton Rhodes, Class of 1953, in memory of his parents Cecil and Agnes Rhodes to assist incoming students from Union High School (Clarion County).  To be eligible, students must be an incoming freshman, have a minimum SAT score of 900 (combined critical reading and mathematics component), and have graduated in the upper two fifths of their high school class.

The Cherie (Lowe) Wolovich '68 and Dan Wolovich '70 Special Education Scholarship was established by Cherie and husband Dan to honor their non-verbal autistic grandson.  Cherie is originally from DuBois, PA and studied Elementary Education at Clarion State College while her husband also graduated with a business degree from Clarion.  This scholarship will support a student enrolled on Clarion's  campus studying Special Education and has received admission to the Teacher's Education program.

Recipients must be enrolled on PennWest Clarion's campus majoring in special education, have earned 48 credits towards their degree and/or be a junior or senior, hold a minimum 3.0 GPA, and have received teacher education status.  The scholarship is renewable for the subsequent year(s) if eligibility requirement are met.
 

Christopher John Stahlman Memorial Scholarships: Established in memory of Christopher, a Clarion University graduate, by his parents. Two C.J. Stahlman Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to Clarion County students in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, integrity, and service. Requirements include SAT scores in excess of 950 and a grade-point average no less than 3.3. One award is exclusively for students from Clarion- Limestone High School. This award can be renewed in the sophomore, junior, and senior years, provided that the student maintains the required academic criteria. The second award, available to students from any Clarion County high school, is renewable for the sophomore year. Application is required, along with an essay and possible interview.

This scholarship was established by a Clarion State College Alumnus to honor the men who competed in the 1980's.  This scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus male swimmer(s).  Candidates must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and meet the established requirements of the NCAA.  Coaches will make the scholarship offer to those student-athletes in his/her group of recruits/team member each year.  If at any time no male swimmer meets the established criteria, the award may be directed to a female member/recruit of the swimming and diving program.
 

This scholarship is funded by the Clarion Students' Association and is intended for students who have classes or obligations that are required for completion of their degree that are in addition to necessary course work at the university.  This includes working without pay (such as athletic trainers, student teachers, or field experience courses), taking classes not offered during the regular semesters (only available during winter and/or summer sessions), or other circumstances that you feel would meet this criterion.

This scholarship was established by Michael, Class of 1991, and Stephanie (Sherman, Class of 1990) Cole, both proud graduates of Clarion University (now PennWest - Clarion), to recognize what the Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus athletics program has done for their family. The scholarship is awarded to a wrestler who demonstrates a continued spirit of excellence on the mat, at practice, in the classroom, and in the community. The recipient must meet the eligibility requirements set by the NCAA and have at least a 2.0 QPA. The same student may receive the award in subsequent years. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This endowed scholarship was established by members of the COBA Business Advisory Council to provide support for an incoming freshman with a declared major in the College of Business Administration, a minimum SAT score of 1000, a 3.0 GPA in high school, and demonstrated financial need.  The scholarship may be awarded to the same student for up to five years if that student maintains a 3.0 QPA as a full-time business major.

This annual scholarship is established by Dan and Cheryl Mortland, both Clarion State College alumni from the Class of 1972. Their desire is to pay it forward to today’s PennWest Clarion students to give them a great start to their future endeavors. Their hope is that students will have a similar Clarion experience that they had which includes an excellent education, meeting new people, getting involved on campus, and furthering themselves to be successful members of society.
 

Eligibility Requirements:

1. This award is for an incoming freshman undergraduate Education major. This includes Early Childhood/Elementary Education, Middle/Secondary Education, or Special Education.

2. The award is renewable if the student maintains proper academic status per PennWest University’s policies and also adheres to the eligibility requirements in this document.

3. The student must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

4. Student must show financial need from the FAFSA form.

5. Prospective recipients shall write a 1,000-word essay (verified not to be AI generated) on why they desire to attend the Clarion campus of Pennsylvania Western University.

6. The student must be part of PennWest Clarion’s campus as defined by PennWest University policy. This does not allow for students that are fully online.

7. The student must be progressing in a reasonable manner toward a 4-year degree, e.g. they must be on track to graduate in 4 years.

8. The student must be taking at least 75% of their classes in-person. Realizing that the in-person percentage can change from semester to semester, this will be a cumulative requirement that should be monitored by the scholarship recipient’s academic advisor in conjunction with the department chairperson.

9. Transfer students are acceptable so long as they are entering their second semester freshman year.

10. Students must be residents of Pennsylvania.

This scholarship was established in October 2007 to honor the memory of David M. McElhattan, a native of Franklin, Pennsylvania who spent most of his adult life as friend, confidant, supporter, and coach of many young people of the Franklin and Rocky Grove area. David's ties to Clarion University are many; his mother, father, and sister are all Clarion graduates and his son is current student at Clarion with his daughter to follow. To be considered for the award, students must be a senior or recent graduate of Franklin or Rocky Grove High School, be admitted to Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus as a full-time undergraduate student with above average academic achievement in high school, show evidence of involvement in sports, music, the arts, or other social activities as a "team player," and show financial need. Students will automatically be considered upon receipt of their application for admission.

This scholarship was established by Michael, Class of 1979, and Courtney Baker in memory of Dave Mercinko, a former Clarion University (now PennWest - Clarion) football player. This scholarship will be an annual award for a freshman Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus student athlete. To be considered one must have a minimum SAT score of 900 or above, graduate in the top two-fifths of high school class, and demonstrate financial need. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.

This scholarship was established by Mr. David C. Smith, Class of 1964, to honor Dean James Moore who was a former dean at Clarion State College. Dean Moore was involved with many areas of campus during his tenure at Clarion including assisting in coaching football and scouting, served as admission officer, and was director of community housing for off campus housing. At retirement in 1972, Dean Moore had served the longest term of any academic dean among Pennsylvania's state colleges and universities. Eligible candidates must meet admission's requirements for enrollment, plan matriculation to Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus, meet the eligibility requirements set by the NCAA, and be a member of the women's softball team. First preference will be given to a student from the College of Education and Human Services. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by Mr. David C. Smith, Class of 1964, to honor Dr. Diane L. Reinhard. Dr. Reinhard was highly regarded as a dedicated university administrator, mentor, and outstanding visionary during her 13 years (1990-2003) as president of Clarion University (now PennWest - Clarion). To be considered by the soccer coach, candidates must be a player who meets the eligibility requirement set by NCAA. First preference will be given to a student from the College of Education & Human Services.  This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by John DiTommaso, Clarion University Class of 1978, in honor of his parents Angelo and Dorothy DiTommaso.  The award will be offered to an incoming freshman graduating from either Hempfield (Greensburg), Penn-Trafford, Norwin, Jeannette, or Greensburg Central Catholic High Schools.  To be considered eligible, candidates must have achieved a minimum SAT score of 1100 (combined critical reading and mathematics component) or ACT composite of 24 or better and graduated in the upper two-fifths of their high school class.  All applicants for admission who meet the specific criteria will automatically be considered for this scholarship award.  The DiTommasos' have had tremendous community support for many years and felt that this was one way to acknowledge their appreciation.

This endowed scholarship provides an annual award for full-time students pursuing a B.S. degree in nursing. Candidate selection criteria include grades in nursing course work, overall academic record, financial need, recommendation of nursing instructors, and service to the university and/or the nursing profession.

This scholarship, established by J. Donald Bishop, Class of 1972, in honor of his late wife Donna Dupont Bishop, Class of 1972, is intended for an outstanding incoming freshman student.  Students must be enrolled full-time at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus, have scored a minimum 1300 on the SAT (combined critical reading and mathematics component), have graduated in the top two percent of their high school class, and demonstrate leadership qualities and involvement in community and extra-curricular activities to be eligible for consideration.  Preference will be given to students having financial need with secondary consideration being given to applicants residing in northwestern Pennsylvania.  The scholarship is renewable in subsequent years if the recipient maintains at least a 3.0 QPA.

Dr. Dipendra Bhattacharya, known affectionately to generations of students as Dr. Dip, was hired at Clarion University in 1986.  His directive was to prepare future high school teachers, and his work with those future teachers has impacted the local community for generations as those teachers continue to work throughout the region.  Later in his career, Dr. Dip developed a passion for teaching the mathematics for liberal arts courses using his enthusiasm and natural charisma to get students across all backgrounds interested in mathematics.  Dr. Dip would tell his students that for something to be worth learning, it must have one of three properties: it must be true, it must be useful, or it must be beautiful.  He would then proceed to demonstrate to his students how mathematics is all of those things.

Dr. Dip wanted to bring the joy he experienced doing mathematics to everyone in the community.  He gave presentations on mathematics at high schools across the region, but he was also almost equally well known for his shows as a trained magician.  He was tireless in his efforts to help students, frequently giving them his home phone number so they could call and ask questions anytime along with holding marathon "all weekend long" office hours.  He was willing to work with any student regardless of whether they were in his class.  He remains for innumerable students (mathematics major or not) their favorite Clarion University professor.

First preference for this scholarship shall be given to freshmen Mathematics or Secondary Education Mathematics majors.  Second preference will be given to freshmen Chemistry, Biology, or Engineering majors.  A minimum grade point average of 3.00 is required.  The scholarship award is renewable throughout the recipients time at Clarion if eligibility is maintained.

The Dr. G.M. Ghosh Memorial Scholarship was established by Dilip Ghosh ('78) for students who are nationals of India entering the University's Master of Business Administration (MBA) 11 month and/or 2-year program or for students who are already enrolled in the MBA program at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus. The scholarship will be provided to a student who is in good academic standing and has a grade point average of at least 3.0.  The scholarship is intended to assist with the student's successful completion of the program.  If there are no Indian-nationals in the MBA program, an Indian-national or child of an Indian-national of any major may be considered.  Any international student of any major may be considered if no applicant meets the Indian-national or child of an Indian-national requirement.

This scholarship was established by the Wollastons (George, Class of 1957, and Twila M., Class of 1958) as a means of attracting outstanding young men and women in academics and athletics to Clarion. Two freshman scholarships are awarded each year to Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus students, one to a member of the men's baseball team and one to a member of the women's basketball team. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. This scholarship was established by Mary L. Seifert, Class of 1946, in memory of former physical education teacher Helen Barton. The scholarship is for a female freshman student athlete with first preference given to a female basketball player. The athlete must also meet the eligibility requirements set by the NCAA. This scholarship was established by Dr. Iseli K. Krauss, a member of Clarion's Psychology Department since 1988, to provide an annual scholarship to a Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus junior majoring in Psychology.  To be eligible, students must currently be of sophomore standing, have a minimum SAT score of 1050, and have at least a 3.2 QPA.

This endowment was established by Dr. Lou Tripodi and Marge (Sherry) Tripodi to provide for an annual scholarship awarded to an incoming freshman Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus student graduating from Redbank Valley, Clarion Limestone, or Clarion High School.   Students must have a minimum SAT score of 900 (combined critical reading and mathematics component) or above, graduate in top 40 percent of their high school class, and show financial need as determined by the FAFSA form to be considered.

This scholarship was established by Mr. David C. Smith, Class of 1964, to honor Dr. Max Nemmer, a respected and admired professor of Mr. Smith while at Clarion State Teachers College. Dr. Nemmer came to Clarion State in the fall of 1960 where he taught English and was an esteemed colleague and admired educator. Eligible candidates must meet admission's requirements for enrollment, plan matriculation to Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus, and meet the eligibility requirements set by the NCAA. First preference will be given to a student from the College of Education and Human Services. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was created by Dr. Rebecca Leas (former coach) and Milissa (Steiner) Bauer, Class of 1984 and a former Clarion swimmer. Dr. Leas was the head women's swimming coach from 1979-1987, leading Clarion to six Division II national team titles and a second and a third place finish. Her teams were undefeated in PSAC dual meets and won every PSAC championship for eight straight years. Clarion defeated many D-1 schools and also competed at the Division I National Championships 1982-86 and the 1984 United States Olympic Trials. During Dr. Lea's tenure, the women also excelled in the classroom. This scholarship is awarded to a woman who demonstrates this continued spirit of excellence both in the water and in the classroom. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate who meets NCAA Div II regulations and must maintain at least a 2.8 QPA while swimming at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

Patricia M. Kelley established this award in memory of her husband James Kelley ('50) who passed away in 2010.  Jim received his undergraduate degree at Clarion State College where he played both basketball and baseball.  In honor of his love of learning and athletics, the award will be presented by the Director of the Honors Program to honors students participating in basketball or baseball.  In the absence of eligible students who participate in either of those sports, the award can be made to any honors student who participates in a recognized sport.

This scholarship will provide a $1,000 scholarship to one student, annually, for three years as a result of a generous gift from Alexander Kozora ('15).  After graduating Summa Cum Laude, he became the co-owner of Steelersdepot.com.  Seeking to "pay it forward," Alex has committed to funding this scholarship in full.
 
Applicants must be a sophomore, junior, or senior Pennsylvania Western University student majoring in communications at the Clarion campus who are participating with the Clarion Call, CU-TV, and/or WCUC-FM The Clutch.  Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and also demonstrate financial need based on the FAFSA form to be considered.
 

An endowed scholarship fund was created by the Eberly Family Trust to provide scholarships for students residing in Fayette County. Award selection is based upon academic achievement and financial need. No application is required, as student records are reviewed via their admission materials for this renewable scholarship. To be considered, Fayette County students need at least a 3.0 grade point average and a minimum SAT total of 1000 (combined critical reading & mathematics component).

 

Scholarships for qualified members of the Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus Wrestling team.  The scholarships are awarded by the head coach.  There is no application for this scholarship.
 

This scholarship is available to a member of the Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus baseball team who is a resident of Pennsylvania. In addition, the individual must have completed at least three academic semesters, be in good academic standing, and be eligible for participation in NCAA events the following year. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by Mr. David C. Smith, Class of 1964, in honor of Miss Florence McLaughlin, an English teacher and role model for many students of Mt. Lebanon High School. The scholarship is intended for recruiting talented students from Mount Lebanon High School (Allegheny County) to attend Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus.  To be eligible, incoming freshmen students must have achieved a minimum SAT score of 1050 (combined critical reading and mathematics component), or equivalent ACT score, and graduated in the upper half of their high school class.  First preference will be given to incoming English majors; second to incoming Secondary Education majors; and third to incoming Elementary Education majors.

This scholarship was established by the Clarion University Foundation, Inc., to provide support to Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus students enrolled in the Honors Programs and who excel academically.  All students in the Honors Program who meet the criteria established by the Director of Honors Program committee will be considered.





 

This scholarship is available to a female student-athlete who has made outstanding contributions to Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus athletics. To be eligible, student-athletes must have completed a minimum of 3 full semesters of academic undergraduate work, earned at least one varsity letter through significant contributions to their sport(s), and demonstrate a commitment to academic pursuits. Recipients must also meet all eligibility requirement set by the NCAA. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established via proceeds from Clarion University's (now PennWest - Clarion) annual Wild Game dinner along with gifts from friends of Mr. Garbarino. The scholarships are available to both men and women who compete on any intercollegiate team at PennWest - Clarion. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. This scholarship was established by Mrs. Nancy Williams in memory of her husband George L. Williams, the voice of Clarion University (now PennWest - Clarion) wrestling for many years. The award is made annually to a member of the university's wrestling team or a graduate student associated with the program. The recipient will be selected based upon the following requirements: academic proficiency, wrestling performance, character, moral standards, and eligibility under NCAA rules. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. Scholarships are available to both men and women who compete on intercollegiate teams at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus. Interested students should have their high school coach contact the respective coach at PennWest - Clarion for additional information. Coaches will make the scholarship offer to one of those scholar athletes in his/her group of recruits/team members each year. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by the H.G. Burns Family and Burns & Burns Associates, Inc. to assist incoming undergraduate students interested in a career in Insurance, Finance, or Real Estate at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus.  To be considered, students must have a high school GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 point scale and a minimum SAT score of 1100, be in the top 40 percent of their graduating class, and have demonstrated effective extracurricular participation.  Preference will be given to residents of Pennsylvania; however, outstanding candidates from other states and countries throughout the world may be eligible.  This scholarship is renewable up to four years provided the recipient is enrolled full-time and maintains at least a 3.25 QPA in a major in the Department of Finance.  Student records are reviewed for this award via their admission materials.

This scholarship was established in honor of Harry E. Tripp to support women's athletics at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus.  Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements set by the NCAA.  Prospective student athletes will automatically be considered, when appropriate.  There is no application for this scholarship.  It is awarded by coaches.
 

This scholarship was established by David C. Smith, Class of 1964, in memory of his father Harry Joseph Smith to provide an annual scholarship to a Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus Accounting major.  To be considered, the student must be a full-time undergraduate Accounting major, have a minimum SAT score of 1000, and demonstrate financial need as per the FAFSA which must be on file by the application deadline.

This scholarship was established in memory of Clarion Alumna, Helen Ferry Shields, to honor her and her work in the field of Library Science.  Helen worked in public and school libraries and volunteered with church libraries and university archives.  

Fund will provide 3 annual scholarships/awards in Helen's name:
1-To recruit a first year student from Western Pennsylvania, who has declared an intent to major in Library Science;
2-To award a junior or senior in Library Science department who has demonstrated strong academic record and contributions to the department/university;
3-To recruit a returning or non-traditional student to the graduate program of Library Science. 
 

This scholarship was established by Ralph ('31) and Virginia Fulton in memory of Ralph's parents.  Recipients of this award must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 and be in the upper twenty percent of his or her high school graduating class.

This scholarship has been established through the sponsorship of the Iron Furnace Chapter of Trout Unlimited (IFTU).  Environmental education is a central mission of Trout Unlimited and IFTU supports a variety of educational activities.  Training the next generation of professionals to provide stewardship of our coldwater resources is crucial in the long-term conservation, protection, and restoration of these resources, and the chapter understands the importance of field based, hands-on learning.  This award was established in honor of the founding members of the Iron Furnace Chapter, several of whom were Clarion faculty and involved in teaching environmental science.  Thus, the IFTU Founders award is specifically targeted to support students who enroll in summer field courses in aquatic science.

Applicants must anticipate enrollment in the Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a course and/or planning a career in the aquatic sciences.  Consideration is based upon academic record and the completion of an essay summarizing university and community service, financial need, and short-term and longer-term career goals.

This scholarship was established by Carloyn Mays Axtell in memory of her father, a leader in the development of Clarion County. The purpose of the award is to assist student-athletes enrolled in the College of Business Administration and Information Sciences majoring in business who meet eligibility requirements for either football or men's basketball. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. James G. and Karen Westfall Pesek to recruit and support high achieving management or human resource management majors in the College of Science, Technology and Business. To be considered, incoming freshmen must have a minimum GPA of 3.25, a minimum SAT score of 1000 (combined critical reading and mathematics components), a declared major in management or human resource management, and financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA.

This scholarship was established by Mr. Howard Shreckengost, university trustee, in honor of his wife Janet, a native of Clarion County.  It is the wish of the family to share with others Janet's appreciation of music, as well as her concern for continued growth and excellence in the field of health sciences.  To be considered, incoming freshmen candidates must have strong high school academic credentials, demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA, and be pursuing a degree in either music or nursing.  The scholarship would be renewable for a second year providing the student meets requirements for achieving academic progress.

This scholarship was established by Verna Kata, Class of 1932, in memory of her husband Joe Kata, Class of 1932, who was a former three-sport athlete and local high school football coach, as well as a guidance counselor and superintendent. The award will be given to a male or female freshman student athlete who meets eligibility requirements set by the NCAA. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship fund was established by Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Gendler, with the support of the entire Mathematics Department, to honor the memory of Provost Kuhn by providing scholarships to attract students from under represented classes to study mathematics at Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus.  To be eligible, students must have applied for admission to Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus with the intent to be a full-time undergraduate student.  They must also be a member of an under represented class and are planning to major in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.  Q.P.A., class rank and SAT or ACT scores measured by the admissions file will all be determining factors in the selection process.

This scholarship was established by family and friends to honor the memory of Dr. Kuhn, former Provost of Clarion University.  The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming undergraduate freshman student  enrolled in Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus, who demonstrates academic achievement, high school and community involvement, as well as an eclectic array of interests.  A minimum GPA of 2.8 is required in order to be considered. 

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Salvucci in memory of their son John Francis Salvucci who graduated from Clarion with a History degree in 1981.  Incoming freshmen enrolled in the Secondary Education/Social Studies program will be given first consideration with second preference given to incoming freshmen History major.  To be considered, students must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 (combined critical reading and mathematics component) and be in the upper two-fifths of his or her high school graduating class.

John Mochnick/Penn-Trafford Leadership Scholarship:  This leadership scholarship was established by Mr. John Mochnick '32 to assist incoming academically achieving freshmen students.  Recipients of this scholarship will have achieved a minimum SAT score of 1000 and graduated in the upper two-fifths of their high school class.  Mr. Mochnick had a great affection for the Penn-Trafford School District where he was a teacher and administrator.  As such, students from the Penn-Trafford School District will be given preference.

 

This scholarship was created by John V. Calipari, Class of 1982, and supported by his former Clarion teammates. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus Men's Basketball player who meets the eligibility requirements set by the NCAA. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

John Mochnick Honors Program Scholarships: Created by the estate of John Mochnick to provide scholarships for academically talented students. Students who are accepted into the Honors Program by March 15 of their senior year in high school are automatically considered for this scholarship. Outstanding grades in challenging curriculum, SAT scores, college major interest, and unique experiences/abilities, are all considered by the Director of Honors Program committee.

This scholarship was established by Chuck and Jane McLaughlin (Class of 1972 and Class of 1973, respectively) in honor of Jane's father Johnny Garneau. During the time he lived in Clarion, Johnny was renowned for his "Johnny Garneaus" restaurants in the Clarion County community and in Pittsburgh, Youngstown, Cleveland, and southern Florida and was one of the founding fathers of the local Autumn Leaf Festival. This scholarship also recognized the athletic accomplishments of his grandchildren: Megan, CJ, and Kayley McLaughlin. Eligibility criteria considered by Clarion's volleyball coach includes an incoming freshman volleyball player; a player who meets the eligibility requirements set by the NCAA; and preference will be given to a business major with a G.P.A. of a 3.2 or above in high school.  This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

The Joseph J. Knowles Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in 1994 to assist financially needy student-athletes at Clarion University, now Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus.  The scholarship program is a tribute to his career as an educator and a coach, and to his persistence and his desire to succeed.  Over the years, he won numerous championships and coaching awards, but his greatest satisfaction came from helping young student-athletes grow and find their way.  He was the most successful baseball coach at Clarion State College, now Clarion University.  Proof of his legacy is marked by his winning record, his membership in the University's Hall of Fame, and the success of the players he coached.  Knowles sent many players on to play pro baseball, including the 1982 Cy Young Award winner Pete Vukovich.  Knowles' discipline as a student of the game, along with his unique outreach to athletes who might not otherwise have a chance to play are two of his most outstanding characteristics.  The entire Knowles family is pleased to follow his lead and assist students in their academic and athletic endeavors.
 
This endowment will provide, annually, (2) scholarship awards in support of student-athletes of PennWest - Clarion who demonstrate financial need to attend or remain enrolled by completing the FAFSA and are participating members of the baseball team.  To receive the scholarship in subsequent years, candidates must maintain a minimum 2.0 QPA and be in good academic standing.

This scholarship was established by Justin Kuzemka, Class of 1992 and former Clarion University (now PennWest - Clarion campus) wrestler, and his father Col. Nick Kuzemka as a result of the fond memories they both have from Justin's time at Clarion. Justin competed during some of the program's most successful years. Both Justin and Nick feel these years were an integral part of making Justin the hardworking, dedicated father and husband he is today. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a wrestler who demonstrates a continued spirit of excellence on the wrestling mat, in the practice room, in the community, and in the classroom. Recipients must meet eligibility requirements set by the NCAA and maintain at least a 2.0 QPA.  This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

Established by Helen Milliron to honor her and her late husband Jim's time at Clarion State Teacher's College, now Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus, to provide financial support to students who are either United States veterans or children of a United States veteran and are determined to have financial need based on the FAFSA.  First preference will be given to education majors; however, any major (online students included) will be considered if no education major meeting the other criteria is available.

The scholarship created by Mrs. Oleta B. Amsler in honor of her mother, Laura Taylor Booth with first preference to support elementary education majors from Elk County. Secondary consideration will be given to elementary education majors from Western Pennsylvania. Criteria includes at least a score of 1250 on the SAT's and top 5% of high school senior class. This renewable award is offered once every four years. When available, students are automatically considered for this award when they submit their application for admission.

This scholarship was created by Al Lefevre, Class of 1965 & 1971, and his wife Bonnie (Elizabeth J. Harkness), Class of 1965, in honor of their family and their life-long relationship with Clarion. Bonnie earned her degree in Elementary Education, has taught kindergarten for 27 years, and is an avid golfer. Al played quarterback for the Golden Eagles while earning his degree in Speech Pathology and served as a speech therapist from 1965-1999. Al also coached 70 different teams (golf, basketball, football, volleyball) at the high school level and returned to Clarion University (now PennWest - Clarion) in 1999 as head golf coach. His university teams were extraordinarily successful and Al was named PSAC Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2006. Al lost his battle with brain cancer August 2008. A Lefevre Family Scholarship award will be presented annually to a member of the Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus golf team. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by Louis, Class of 1974, and Beatrice Dean to demonstrate their desire to support Clarion University, Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus student athletes. The scholarship will be available to both men and women who participate in any of PennWest - Clarion's NCAA sports. This scholarship will be awarded by the head coach. No application is necessary.
 

This scholarship was established by President Diane Reinhard in memory of her parents Lyle and Clara Reinhard to assist incoming academically achieving freshmen students.  Two one-time awards will be provided annually.  The first award is for new Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion campus freshmen graduating in the upper twenty percent of their high school class who have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and at least a 1050 SAT score (combined critical reading and mathematics component).  The second award is for incoming freshmen students enrolled in the Nursing Program who graduated in the upper twenty percent of their high school class and have a 3.0 high school GPA or better and a minimum SAT score of 1000.

This scholarship was established by Miss Virginia Kaufman, Class of 1937, in honor of her parents.  These scholarships are available to freshmen on a one-time basis.  Past winners have a minimum SAT score of 1200 (combined critical reading and mathematics component) and are in the upper 10 percent of his or her high school graduating class.  Students are reviewed for this scholarship upon receipt of their admission materials.
